Can anyone tell me if its possible to get a direct sleeper train from Sofia to Athens. Do you need to buy tickets in advance, I will only be in Sofia for 3 days. What is the cost.
Thank you to anyone that has done this journey and can offer some advice. Trying to avoid a past experience of standing on a deserted platform late at night.
Thanks.

Hi, there is a train from Sofia to Thessaloniki( N363), and then another one from Thessaloniki to Athens. And a direct sleeping wagon Sofia - Athens. http://bdz.creato.biz/bg/ext_atina. Price for the greek part of the journey is 30 Euro and for Bulgarian will be not more than 10 Euro.
Here is contact with offices of train company - BDZ in Sofia(Bulgaria tel. code 359; Sofia code 02):

thank you for your help.
A few more questions, do you know if we need to book in advance. We are only interested in the direct sleeper train Sofia to Athens. Do these run daily. Are they safe and quite comfortable.
Many Thanks

Yes the direct sleeper wagon Sofia Athens is re-attached by employees of train company which means you will not have to hop off hop on in the middle of the night. Trains are safe but use your common sense as always. Usually no need for reservation, but it%26#39;s best to contact train company in advance and clear particulars. Have a nice trip.

You probably cannot find such a destination on the site because it accounts for all Bulgaria destinations only. I called BDZ. There is a direct sleeper it leaves 17:05 every day but... you need to book in advance - usually 1 month prior to journey - I was told. Feel free to ask :]. BTW I haven%26#39;t taken the journey to Athens by train, but in bulgarian train there are 2 policemen on board, and you can lock the chamber from inside. As for comfort - it depends - I am not a train person any more - travelled all my train miles as a student.
