Returned 15th August from SB after 3rd visit. There are plenty of bars where a litre of local draft beer is a lev or less. Granted, some tastes decidedly more watered down than others, but bars along Flower Street and the Spider Restaurant along the main strip were fine. Food wise I can say IMO the cheapest, friendliest, most fantastic range of piping hot food was Far A. It%26#39;s situated along the main front, nearer the south side heading to Nessabar and is a huge place with greeters dressed as Captains in blue and white t-shirts. (Say Hi to Jimmy if you go!) My hubby is not normally a big tipper but he gave 20 lev tips to each waiter who served us on consecutive visits and went in on our last morning to meet the female chef,show his appreciation and tip her also!
Billy%26#39;s Bistro was slightly more expensive, but friendly again with fantastic food and offers of free kids ice-creams and bottles of bubbly. This is along the strip nearer to the beach-front. Further along is Fat Cat which is amazing for a lunch. Forget the Jacket potato fast food stalls at 5-6 lev each. My daughter oredered a spud with 2 fillings and a side-salad for 8 lev and it was HUGE with fillings oozing all over the plate. Could have fed 2 adults! Waitress was lovely too. Opposite here is Simply Mike%26#39;s who is a Peckham bloke who has travelled the world and offers an international menu for all tastes including traditional English puddings! His burgers are hand-made, as was his mash and the waitress was fluent in English and a really pleasant, funny girl.
Mamacitas was fantastic mexican food which was pricey but piping hot, delicious and the service was very speedy.
We have NEVER experienced rude bulgarians who some people moan about and IMO see more tourists being rude to locals...however third time unluckily we did have a bad experience at The Condor. Our waiter made Basil Fawlty look angelic. Rude, aggressive, leaving our dishes to go cold and bringing them out at ten minute intervals per person and also adding extra drinks and side-dishes to our bill. He obviously disliked tourists as he spent considerable time chatting to locals and pointing at us. He physically pushed one of our children, slammed drinks in front of us and threw back the nominal tip we gave him in 1 stonki pieces at a female member of our party. He works in the upstairs section as we had a word with the greeter after and is renowned for his temper. If you venture here, maybe try to be seated downstairs? Wouldn%26#39;t wish him on my worst enemy!!
Tip to get rid of annoying gypsey fruit sellers as you venture through the main square to the beach and they try to ram cherries in your mouth? Tell them you are allergic to fruit and are likely to be physically sick all over them...
Gifts and fake designer gear are cheaper on flower st and the market area than the beach fronts.
The aqua parks are great for older kids with huge pools and water slides but for a family of four it is 30 lev per person, making 120 lev. If you have younger kids, maybe under 12%26#39;s then catch the bus to Nessabar for a lev each and get off when you see the big pirate ship mini aqua park which is attached to the Kotva (I think) hotel. 10 lev per person for all day and the security is not as stringent as the main parks so you could take snacks and drinks in. There are ample fun areas, smaller slides, bars, restaurant and a pool bar and a small amusement arcade. For 40 lev a family, you could make more visits to water-parks.
Most bars will offer BOGOF cocktails and local spirits after 6pm and sometimes before. However, kids cocktails are not included. But if you venture along the beach front right up the North end there is a bar which does include kids cocktails. Cant remember the name but its one of the last big beach bars at the North end of the beach with a play area next to it.
For a fantastic 24hour pharmacy with a fluent-speaking blonde haired lady who is an amazing medical mind...go to the one opposite Laguna Park and near Hotel Svejest.
Can%26#39;t think of anything else at the mo so for all you lucky peeps yet to go...HAPPY HOLS and you will love it....Mandie xx

Thanks for a great report.
We found that the quality and service at the Condor had gone down a great deal this year and the prices have risen. Only went in there to eat once. We did go in the bar quite a few times though.
Glad you enjoyed the FarA. We didnt bother this year as we were very disappointed last Summer.

Sorry Taz and Maz but I think you%26#39;ll find a big beer is 500ml which is half a litre!!
|||
Just realised re Litre being a half litre....measurements never my strongpoint haha! Either way a Bulgarian local draft beer is better value than a British pint and can recommend Zagorka and one called Boliarka (check spelling)Bottles will cost more and some are quite flat compared to the draft.....I%26#39;m not a heavy lager drinker, but I mostly drank draft Zagorka at a lev for a big one, though places do vary. Welshlady I promise you that FarA is outstanding now....believe me it takes a lot to make my hubby happy and want to tip well haha xx

Totally agree with Taz and Maz about Far a fantastic place and avoid the condor at all costs...
|||
Totally agree FAR A was our favourite also.
Went to the Spider Bar Bought Cocktails BOGOF but were watered down and i complained which was a shame as they had a good live band.
We went to Condor Found it fine in the day, but on our visit in the evening we walked out as they took so long.
We did go to mc Donalds on one occasion but only bought Ice Cream for 1 Lev. reason Being one of the Ice Cream sellers tried Ripping us off. He is opposite the Revolution Club. Tried charging me 15lev for 2 ice creams i think he fiddled the Scales.
I told him where to go.
The Chicken Kebab place past the big Ferris Wheel also tried short changing me.

We were ripped off 2 in nessebar old town, wait for it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
35 lev for 2 ice creams. He crammed in the ice cream. how stupid we where to pay it looking back. We didn%26#39;t know what else to do but pay it, we couldn%26#39;t give them back as they had been licked as they where melting. Needless to say we never had another ice cream for the rest of the holiday.

That%26#39;s harsh! The only ice-creams I bought for the kids and myself were from the fridges, readily packaged but that%26#39;s just because I have a very sensitive stomach with their water due to a very bad bout of food poisoning years ago in the UK.As to anything measured, including distances via taxis, the only thing I can say is agree the price or clarify it first before buying. There are some unscrupulous people there, as in EVERY country. Our waiter in The Condor obviously thought he could pull the wool but didn%26#39;t realise that a female member of our party would have the know-how to sit and pore over the receipt in Bulgarian, with a menu and prices and work out EXACTLY how many of each item had been added, particularly with a party of 7. It threw him completely and when he realised she would not accept his lie that we had had the items, he began slamming items on the table AS we were leaving to go.....verifying his guilt/mistake. BTW that was the ONLY rip-off we encountered and must stress that any other restaurants did not do this.
