We will be docking in Varna for one day in October - any must sees/do%26#39;s while there? Can we do this on our own or do we need a guide? If yes to a guide, any recommendations? All information is appreciated.
Thanks

Only went there for a a day trip, but there is the Dolphinarium, the Orthodox Cathedral, and a fairly reasonable shopping area.
All in all, it seemed quite a nice town with a Mediterranean feel,a place where you might feel comfortable making your own way around.
We were warned to look out for pickpockets around the shopping areas though.

i was there for a day some years ago and it is a lovely town with old architecture. i can%26#39;t remember any specific sites but i am sure if you googled varna, you would come up with some info. i just remember that it was very interesting and beaufiful, if a bit run-down (adds to the charm, up to a point)

The national park is lovely to walk around and very close to the beach. Try the dolphin show you can sit in the cafe while watching the show. Be very careful of showing any valuables whilst walking around town there are pickpockets everywhere some as young as 4 or 5

Hi, first of all excuse my english :)
I might be prejudiced because i live in Varna and i actually work as a guide but i recommend you not to use a guide because most of the interesting things to see in Varna are situated in the centre of the town and it`s really easy to visit them on your own. I can recommend you to visit the Roman terms because they are one of the biggest historical records in Bulgaria of Roman time. Then you really must go to the varna`s park it`s name is the Sea Garden. It`s a lovely, big and very beautiful park. There you can find the most interessting things here- the Dolphinarium, the Aquarium, the Zoo, many other monuments and ofcourse all the varna`s bars and discos in summer. and if you have enough time and willingness you can make a shopping tour around the pedestrian area ending with the beautifull Orthodox cathedral.
I hope that this information will be usefull and most of all i hope that you understand my english because i`m a russian speaking guide.

Thnaks for the information....is there enough to see in one day in Varna....the ship offers trips out to the countryside to see the horemen at Madara, wine trip to Shouemen (sp) with a brief drive through town. Is there enough to see/do for a day in the town itself? Any restaurants you would recommend for lunch? Do you know how ar it is to get from the port to town - can one walk, bus, taxi it? All feedback is appreciated.
