weather 1st week of october.?

Can anyone help me please.?

|||

Firstly the resort is just about closing up and the weather can be poor, very hit and miss and chilly at nights. saying that couple of years ago it was lovely sun.

Toonman

|||

Last years it was actually quite hot until end of October..but indeed the resort is closing after mid Sept so possibly just a few hotels would be open then, even if the weather is good. Might be better to stay in some of the small towns like Nessebar, Sozopol, etc - there the beach is good, and you can surely find places for entertainment / nice restaurants even in October/Nov.

I would advise to combine your stay at the sea with some excursions / holidays at the mountain. You can visit a lot of lovely historical places and local attractions within 1-2 hours of driving w/ a car. Thus even if it%26#39;s a bit colder - you can still enjoy a great time in Bulgaria.

Anyone Else Booked Club 18 - 30s At The Mariner?

Hi me and a group of mates have just booked up with thomas cook to go to the mariner studio / apartments club 18 - 30s and was wondering if anyone else was out there at the same time as us during the end of July 09?

Also:

Are there many fellow brits out there partying?

Is the nightlife there decent?

If anyone else has any advice for us it would be much appreciated. Thanks very much.

|||

Also does anyone know about the location of the Mariner and if it is a decent hotel to stay in? Thanks again

|||

Not sure about the Mariner, not heard of the place but with regard to nightlife it is awesome, loads of beachbars to start your night off, then the corner bar in the centre then onto a club. Disco Lazur is probably the best, open till @ 6am. then there is also disco orange to try. Mania is in the centre but mostly caters for local bulgarians and can be quite intimidating. If you need any further info just let me know, have a great holiday

|||

Sounds like our sort of scene then! Just a few more questions:

1. Been reading a lot about there being trouble out there with regards to prostitutes, pick pocketing and brits getting beaten up by the bulgarians. There any truth to these stories?

2. Are there loads of brits out there or is it a mix of different nationalities?

Thanks for the info its much appreciated.

|||

Also is there a lot of attractive woman in sunny beach?

|||

Hi partyanimal sorry i carnt comment on the hotel as i dont know it .As for pickpots etc dont go down the beach at nigt as the prostitutes work down there.They take men down there and then they get pickpcketed .As long as your carefull you will be ok ,also watch the bulgarian girls in the nite clubs etc they will pickpocket you .Sunny bach is great with good nightlife a mixure of differant natinalities plenty of english girls.You will have a good time dont worry

Hi

Unfortunately the rumours reg the pickpocketing pros are correct, if they approach you in the street, and you will know when you see them that they are pros just say no thanks and keep walking, dont stop to talk to them. Most years they are the same girls and you see them night after night and after a couple of nights they will just leave you alone. Dont go onto the beach with one or you will be asking for a robbing.

Regards nationalities, varied, Scandanavian,German, Holland,English, Russian are the main but I have heard that there will be quite few more Romanians this year.

The Women in sunny beach are very beautiful, especially the Bulgarian girls, just watch out that they dont have a boyfriend the size of a gorilla.

|||

Hello mate, me and 4 my lads booked to go to Hotel Mariner from 13-21 July with 18-30s, cant find many well any reviews on it tho which is abit worrying ! lol its all our first times goin to Bulgaria, Sunny Beach tho as spent last 3 summers in Ibiza, San Antonio. All i know is you cant complain about the currrency conversion when you get more than double what ever you put in in english, def seein as the euro is so rubbish! hopefully Sunny Beach will be a goldmine tho as some my other lads went last year and had an awesome time, said its def more beach bars, lounge bars n few clubs. Cant go wrong really! Hopefully its a good%26#39;un!

|||

Ive booked up with 3 of my mates to stay at the mariner studios with 18-30 and cant find any reviews about it either. hopefully thats just coz its a new hotel?? were off on the 1st week of ausgust and hoping its going to be awsome although i am a bit reserved about the mafia (i hear they run everything). Ive heard good things about sunny beach from a few friends so fingers crossed.

|||

Hi lads,

sorry to tell you this, but most of the reports about Mariner give below average scores for the hotel - staff, pool are etc..

However it has a central location, close to all the action.

I would not recommend this hotel for couples and families, but for a bunch of friends looking for nightlife might be OK.

You could use the beach if you dont%26#39;t like the pool area - it is surrounded by the hotel itself from 3 sides.

Personally I think the rumors about pickpocketing are a bit exaggerated, but many foreigners here tend to drink until they can only crawl on 4 legs and exactly then they can be easy pray of some %26quot;hardworking%26quot; gypsies or dishonest taxi drivers. Also don%26#39;t bring any valuables on the sand beach, only what you need.. towels, sun oils, etc. or leave at all times one of you or friends near by to watch over your things while you are in the sea.

Enjoy your stay here.

Looking for the name of a German song?!

Hi all, there%26#39;s a german song i%26#39;ve heared at the Lazure, in German (pretty sure it%26#39;s German), when all sing along.

it%26#39;s not Remmidemmi, but the other one.

accommodation in varna

Hello,

I am looking to stay in Varna town rather than Golden sands but would ideally love to find a reasonably priced hotel with a pool for a few days. I thought I found one called Detelina which looks relatively close on the map but they say it is 13km away from the town centre!

could anyone help me on this or recommend a reasonably priced place to stay and maybe a hotel that lets visitors use its pool faciltes!

Thanks :)

|||

Hi! I prefer Varna way over Golden Sands. A combination, ie 2-3 days in GS and the rest (weekend is best) in Varna is very nice.

I stayed at the hotel Odessos in Varna. The best location in town. 3 stars and not to expencive.

I dont think there is hotels withs pools facilities in central Varna.

But hotel Odessos is only 1-2 minutes walk to the beach. Very nice and not so crowded as in GS.

It is also a lot cheaper to eat and drink in Varna. And the restaurants are fare better!

|||

Hi,

We stayed in the Odessos a few years ago- its brilliant for location and cheap...only thing is it doesn%26#39;t have a pool...

iberostar sunny beach

Hi for all those who have stayed at this Hotel. what are the drinks prices like in the hotel and what time is the bar open to?????

|||

Price in hotel are well above average of the surrounding bars. Expect to pay 3 lev or more for a pint. Wife%26#39;s cocktail cost 9 lev in the bar but only 5 lev in bars close to hotel.

Have seen it closed at mid night on occasions, depends on how many in.

general advice.

Hi all,I know that there have been lots of changes since our last visit to SB 6 years ago,when the exchange rate was excellent,so I wonder if you can help re prices for eating out,buying gifts,etc.We are taking our 4 year old grandson,so we wondered if clothes are still cheap in the markets,as we would rather buy things there for his hols if poss,instead of packing loads!!!!!Also any recommmendations for places he would enjoy.We are only going for a week,but want to see as much as we can,as he has never been on holiday,so we want his 1st visit to be as good as poss.Cheers Joan

|||

HI Joan,

we are also taking our 5 year old grandson with us again departing 2nd aug, he loves SB We will be going to the aquapark this year with him although i dont know how much they are charging this year, Clothes are resonably priced and depends where you are buying them i tend to go to the big market. My grandson was facinated with the entertainment at knans tent he never moved for the entire floor show so we shall take him again. There are plenty of kiddies rides at the resort centre up beside the kuban area. This year we are taking him on the pirate ship,and whatever else we see whilst over there.

hope you have a great holiday

Hi Janice,many thanks.great info,im hoping it all goes well,as our Tom changes his mind every day about wanting to go on holiday!I think he will be fine once we are there,%26amp; he enjoys looking at the pictures of SB on the website,so im sure it will be fine.He loves the sea,so the pirate trip sounds ideal.Cheers Joan

sunny beach ( Flores Park)

The apartment I stopped in at Flores park was very clean and tidy, the owner was very helpful and kind. The view from the apartment of the pool was pleasant.

The distance to everything you need was just right. There is something for everybody. Next time I would go for longer than a week.

Most of the locals are friendly and make you feel welcome. You can have a good holiday without spending alot of money.

Help please!! Laguna Park Hotel to Paloma Hotel??

Hi there,

We fly out to SB on 7 August staying at the Laguna Park Hotel. I%26#39;ve been reading all the latest reviews for the hotel and on one of the most recent reviews the girl said that if you wanted to keep your room on at the hotel after checking out they were charging over 100quid!! So we%26#39;ve decided to try and book a room for 1 night at another hotel, just to store luggage, get a shower etc before being picked up for the airport at 12am.

Does anyone have an idea how far away the Paloma Hotel is from the Laguna Park??

We can get a room here for about #29 through onthebeach.

Many thanks

Mo

|||

The Paloma is in the market area next to the Biser Apartments. Across the main road where the Hotel Kuban is.( about a 10 minute walk.

I think you must have been misquoted for the room extension as I%26#39;m only paying £100 for the week in my hotel.

Mosquitos

Would you advise to take any insect repellant, for mossies.

Also, is it advisable to hire a car or a bike, R they all mad drivers.

Cheers

|||

I personally would advise you to take plenty of insect repellent and use it regularly especially at night and if its been raining. I was eaten alive by the mozzies and then had allergic reaction to the bites. But most of the bites happened the night i went out without spraying! They did seem to like me though as my hubby only got a couple of bites whereas i was covered in them! Good luck!

safety

Hello , At this time, can anyone comment on the safety of traveling in Sofia.

I have heard about scams and sometimes tourists being given drinks with tranquilizers.

Is this still true.

Thanks.

weather while i was there for 2 weeks

First two days were really bad i went to the beach 4 days two of these days it rained for 40 minutes but cleared up again, throughout the holiday the weather was very cloudy but then when the sun does come out its fab, people were saying there have never seen sunny beach like this in July and on our last day i was lying out in 36 when i starting pouring went into the bar and the wind and rain was so bad it was lifting up the sun charis in the air and throwing them into the pool but then 10 minutes later it cleared up again, but i have never seen or heard more thunder and lightening than my 2 weeks there

2 days in Sofia with 4yr old daughter - what to do?

Hi there! We will be staying not far from Burgas in September with our 4yr old daughter and wanted to make a two day trip to Sofia. Any suggestions as to what to do / places to visit with 4yr old?

Thanks a bunch!

|||

an hour or two at %26quot;Kambanite%26quot; (the bells) monument of the Banner of Peace Assembly

I hear it%26#39;s not well maintained currently but the kids still enjoy it

Additionally, it%26#39;s something more specific and your daughter is %26quot;big%26quot; enough to remember%26amp;value a specific though tiny experience

Other than this, I can%26#39;t recall now nothing specific, just the regular things for the kids exist.

|||

as well as you%26#39;ll be also near Burgas ...

You can visit with her the harbor museum in Burgas, could be interesting to your kid, as well

If there%26#39;s exhibition or workshop of the kids art studios of Burgas (especially the batik studio), it is worth visiting, and should be interesting for her

|||

Hi StelaSD, thanks so much for the reply!

Any further info on workshops around Burgas, what to look for and where? Also any %26quot;links%26quot; to farms/zoo around Burgas that I can take my daughter to? She loves animals (don%26#39;t all kids?) and will really enjoy visiting local farm or the place where she can feed animals etc.

|||

Hi,

I don%26#39;t have info of workshop schedules/places, you should pay attention to posters on the streets (I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll be able to read and 90% understand).

There%26#39;s no zoo in Burgas, they removed it many years ago as it was within the sea garden and this was found inappropriate (as far as I remember, as it was in my childhood).

The nearest zoo I know is in the town Aitos but perhaps it%26#39;s better to visit the Sofia zoo during your visit there.

I have no info about village farms around Burgas, there might be some but I%26#39;m not aware (never been in need to find one).

If you can afford a trip to Varna, your daughter (and not less- you) might enjoy visiting the Dolphinarium www.dolphinarium.festa.bg/en/index.html This will cost you daily trip.

On your way Burgas-Sofia, after Plovdiv there%26#39;s a ostrich farm and a horse base. Not sure if these are open for tourists. The horse base is used for trainings. I wouldn%26#39;t bother to make a detour for seeing the horse base as in Sunny beach (near Burgas where you%26#39;ll stay) the horse riding is anyway available and developed exactly for tourism purpose.

|||

In Sofia, this http://www.earthandman.org/en/index.html can be also interested for a kid.We usually underestimate the interests of the small kids :)

|||

Hi StelaSD, thanks so much for your reply and information! Much appreciated!

Late checkout in Azure Sky Apartments????

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to get a late checkout in the Azure Sky Apartments? Our flight time has been changed from midday to midnight and we don%26#39;t fancy walking around all day with our bags.

Hi johnny dont know if your already on holidays but incase you not the normal check out time is 10.30 we were allowed check out at 12.30 but i think you can rent the room till 6 or the day if they are not busy for i think its 50lv so about 25euro but that is if they are not full as they have people arriving every friday, saturday and sunday but they have a shower room to freshen up and we just went to the beach for the day and came back and waited in the bar until 6 for our bus

Royal Sun apts. Any Info

We were in Bulgaria 2 years ago and stayed at the Sea Dreams apts which were fine.The apts were large and spacious and even had a washing machine.At that time they were only building the Royal Sun apts behind Sea Dreams. We are leaving on the 27th of July for 2 weeks, so if anyome knows anything about the Royal Sun or has stayed there ,please let us know.

|||

The Royal Sun is a new complex on the outskirts of SB, just beside the Summer Dreams Apartments. About a 15 min walk to the centre of the resort but a lot closer to the bars etc surrounding the Meridian Hotel.

I think they are new for this year and some info here.

Thanks very much for the information regarding location of Paloma Hotel from Laguna Park. I was also really surprised at the price of keeping the room on, this has been copy and pasted from scotslass recent review of the Laguna Park:

We travelled with balkan airways and had good flight times however most travelled with thomas cook and were out of hotel room by 12pm and not picked up till12am, the hotel wants 190 Lev to keep room on till 6.00pm which is nearly £100 crazy ,

Can you recommend any other hotels that could let us a room for 1 night?

food prices ?

What are approximately food prices in Varna - I mean restaurants, bistros , bulgarian typical food ?

thx

Adam

|||

Really depends on the restaurant, but compared to most of Europe, it is still fairly inexpensive. For a full meal of three courses for one person you can expect to pay about 20 lv. A nice bottle of Bulgarian wine can be upwards of 20 lv., there are imported wines available too, beer - 2-3 лв. There are many restaurants, fewer bistros, more typical Bulgarian food, less international cuisine, many cafes (great for people watching). Good and tried places are La Pastaria, www.lesbohemes.eu, Happy Bar and Grill, Captain Cook. Those tend to be more on the expensive side for the city, but they offer good service and good food. Also, depending on when you will be coming, summer or the rest of the year, your options will be a lot more in the summer.

|||

And what is the rate LV to EUR?

yavour palace

one word for this hotel crap

we were there in june no security, bar staff, i have yet to hear them speak entertainment nil just a guy with a ponytail hairstyle who played cds and so called kareoke never heard him speak either. the noise through the night was terrible my advice stay away

|||

The Yavor Palace is nothing but a basic,clean hotel not in the same league as say the Iberostar, Majestic etc.

Couple of recent members have reported back saying it was basic but fine when they were there in June.

Not one that I would personally choose unless all I wanted was a bed.

Didn%26#39;t think they did entertainment at all.

Toonman

|||

We were there in June too.

Didin%26#39;t expect much from it and I wasn%26#39;t disappointed.

The room was clean and was in a ideal location for the centre of town.

OK, the TV didn%26#39;t work (despite telling the reps numerous times - it still wasn%26#39;t working the day we left), the air-con was tempremental, only worked when it felt like. There wasn%26#39;t any entertainment in the hotel but there was plenty within easy walking distance.

However, we weren%26#39;t in the hotel long enough for this to matter. In the end you get what you pay for.

It hasn%26#39;t put me off at all. Already booked for next year!

|||

I thought it was great and so did the rest of the family. We didn%26#39;t expect much for the price (It was the cheapest B%26amp;B hotel going when we went in June) and we had already read that the entertainment was non existing so we went out. I still don%26#39;t think it was quite as basic as people make out, I travel around the UK staying in 3 to 4 star hotels and there is not much difference.

Not sure why security is needed? No noise for us, and we was facing the %26quot;Erotic! Yea right!%26quot; bar.

We always got served at the bar and pool bar.

I think if you can complain about this place then you probably will not be happy with anywhere else.

|||

Good for you if you were happy with it so next time I go to the travel agent I will tell them I want loads of noise throughout the night and nothing is done about it when you tell them . It%26#39;s because I did not pay a lot for the holiday so put up with it.

Dont think so

I am due to go here in August with my husband,11 year old and 70 year old dad. We have been to Elenite before and travelled to Sunny Beach for the day and it was great. As we really enjoyed Bulgaria but felt a bit isolated in Elenite,we decided to return but stay in Sunny Beach. We did get this hotel for a good price but after reading some of the reviews,i am a bit worried. Before we went the last time,there were negative comments but we found it was fine.I dont want a terrible holiday this time round though as my dad is fairly recently widowed and we want to cheer him up . Help

|||

Hi Carolkat,we,re going there in Sept.for a week with our 4 year old grandson.Ive read lots of reviews here,%26amp; on other sites,%26amp; they are very mixed,with some reviewers giving very good reviews.At the end of the day,a hotel is somewhere to sleep,wash %26amp; thats about it,unless you plan to stay indoors.We stayed in a very basic hotel in SB a few years ago,that had similar reviews %26amp; it was fine.Like a lot of hotels the breakfasts werent good,but there are loads of restaurants in SB that are really nice,%26amp; reasonably priced.What ive seen in nearly all reviews is that the Yavour is clean,which is a plus,so stay positive.Let us know how you find it.Have a good holiday!!!!cheers Joan

|||

Hotel is okay, you get what you paid for. Rooms cleaned every day, breakfast okay but would not have wanted to stay for evening meal. Please pay for sea view room before you go. Only £7 but worth every penny. Only downside was the conduct shown by the guests. There were guys with racist comments about the different football teams printed on their tee shirts, continually drunk, pushing each other into the pool on top of anyone (even kids) who happened to be in it, running amok until early morning (karaoke bar stayed open until 3am) intimidating families, and NOTHING WAS DONE ABOUT IT.

|||

Change a small amount in London(to have for water, taxi) and the rest in Bulgaria - there%26#39;s not much difference in the exchange rates. In Bulgaria, always change in banks - if you want to avoid to be tricked.

|||

Take about £50 of levs with you and just change your sterling notes in the banks over there. ( must be clean,unmarked or torn )

Co-op bank today was only 2.07 but 2.24 in the local Bulgarian banks.

Hi Oz,was it First Choice you booked with?I think we will probably settle for buying snacks,but I will check on that.Im not mean but £14 is too much for any budget airline food.I think eating is just a way to pass time on a flight.

|||

HI joan,

there is no free meals on the balkan flight its 7 quid pp although a few years ago it was free mind you it was crap. I tend to by the meal deal in boots the chemist its only 2.99 and you can mix and match. burgas ariport is getting more expensive so try and have something for the return journey

janice

Hi Janice,I remember only too well the meal we were served.It still makes me shudder even now.Yes the Boots meal deal is just the job.We land in the afternoon,so we can eat a decent meal once we,ve settled in %26amp; got our bearings.I will alert the Travel Agent to the fact that the free meal isnt free.Cheers Joan

Supermarkets or open markets in sozopol

Hi. Could anyone please tell me if there are any open markets or large supermarkets around Sozopol? We will be staying in a self catering apartment in the new Town in August.

Also, does anyoe know of good restaurants in the area?

Thanks

Just returned from Sozopol

Just come back from 2 weeks in the Hotel Villa List in Sozopol (which is right next door to the Hotel Selena) and it was wonderful. Very warm, lots of lovely reasonably priced food and drinks.

Restaurants to recommend - just up from the Villa List and Selena, Bistro Sozopol. Very nice food, large vodka is 100ml for 5 levs. The other is Ocean in the middle of the park, lovely Chicken Satch, well worth trying. You can also go into the Hotel Selena and their food is quite good too.

Lots of ATM%26#39;s in the area. We hired a safe in our room at the hotel for 6 levs per day. Bought some Golden Virginia tobacco, 10 x 50g pouches for 90 levs. Leather mules on a stall at the sea front of the new town, for 16 levs and they are very comfortable.

All in all, had a wonderful time.

Hi Sharon

Glad to hear you enjoyed Sozopol. We went a few years ago and stayed at the Selena. The hotel and resort were great. We are giving Obzor a try for the first time next month.

I wanted to book the Selena but the only thing putting me off was the size of their swimming pool. I swim approx 3 miles per week and actually our balcony overlooked the Selena pool and I would say it is no longer than 7m in length. The pool in the Villa List wasn%26#39;t great, but did manage to get some lengths done.

Not heard too much about Ozbor. We are thinking possibly about Golden Sands next year, provided Varna Airport is open then, otherwise it is a long journey from Bourgas to Golden Sands by bus late at night.

Sharon

|||

Your%26#39;e right Sharon, the Selena pool was the smallest hotel pool I%26#39;ve seen and freezing with it! It was the only drawback I could find. Glad to see the vodka is still cheap!

I will post my thoughts on Obzor when we get back. Staying at the Riu Helios Bay with Thomsons as couldn%26#39;t face another holiday with Balkan as they keep changing flights and accommodation.

I didn%26#39;t know that Varna airport was closed, but did wonder why there are not many holidays offered this year in Golden Sands. I would have tried there.

Best wishes

palazzo apartments

Hey

Headin on monday for 2 weeks with 5 mates. was just wondering if anyone has stayed in palazzo apartments. its our first time away without parental help lol so if anyone has any help or suggestions. Thanks =]

weather in august

i wonder if someone could tell me what the night are like weather wise would you need a jacket or is it warm

|||

Hi Gommer, we%26#39;ve been in August for the last 4 years and have never needed to have a jacket in the evening it is still very warm, hoping it%26#39;s the same this year we are going on Sunday for 2 weeks cant wait :)

|||

thanks for that we go on 17th august where are you staying and if you find any good places to eat and drink in there is 20 of us so it would have to be fairly big thanks again hope you have a wonderful holiday

holiday lettings

i am in the process of booking an apartment for my boyfriend and myself thru the holiday lettings site. ive always booked thru a travel agent before but thought i would cut our the middle man so to speak. can anyone advise what precautions i should be taking to ensure the transaction is genuine and what questions i should ask. payment it to be done thru bank transfer or cheque. is this the usual method of payment and is it safe to do it this way..............

|||

Hi skeenie

I have not personally used holidaylettings but have booked private apartments off similar sites over the last few years, mainly in Portugal but also Bulgaria earlier this year without any problems. Payment arrangements vary from owner to owner. We have paid by bank transfer, cheque and on arrival at the apartment.

If you look on the holiday lettings website they have a list of FAQ, one of these is, how can i check the advertiser is genuine - the site then gives a list things you can do prior to booking to help check the rental is genuine.

Hope this helps, we%26#39;ve stayed in some really lovely apartments booking this way.

|||

HI skeenie, We have just returned from St Vlas and we booked the apartment through holiday lettings. We sent a cheque to the owner and just before departure she sent the keys to us by post. We paid a small deposit incase of breakages and once the owner recieves the keys from us we should get our deposit back as nothing was damaged. We met lots of people from the complex who rent out. Hope this is a help to you. It was our first time renting and would not hesitate to book again. Carolyn

|||

thank you for all your advice. i have taken the plunge and booked the apartment we fancied and am planning to pay by cheque so at least i will have a contact address. have no doubt it will be lovely and just waiting final confirmation and then i can relax and look forward to my holiday. thanks again

|||

i also know of some apartments available for future bookings have a look

Just back from the Azure Sky Apartments 17/07/2009

Hi everyone ok so ill start off with the hotel:

The Azure Sky apaertmetns i cant fault it at all, once we got there from the very first day i knew it was the right hotel we picked, ok ya the pool is a bit small but they have an extra pool out the back which i will post all my photos of in a bit, and you have full access of 4 different pools which are massive and the hotel right next door has a great pool as well which you can use, in our 2 weeks there we never once had a problem getting a sun chair to lie out on there is 16 in all but you will always get a sun chair and the beach is so close anyway that we would just go there, its only a very small walk to the center they say 20minutes but it wouldnt really take you this long, the aparments themselves are beautiful i has a one beadroom poolview the air conditioned is brilliant one in the kitchen and in the bedroom the pictures of the apartments on sunway are exactly what the rooms are like but i will post pictures just so you can see for yourself, brand new everything the kitchen area is really nice and the tv has MTV bbc news etc, they were also cleaned nearly everyday.

Wacky o sea%26#39;s the irish bar on the hotel is great so much crack met such lovely people there and in this hotel your not just a room number everyone knows you by your name and the staff are all so welcoming if i was going to return to sunny beach i would definatly be staying here again if only to have there irish breakfast its the only real irish breakfast you will get in sunny beach apart from wacky paddys which do the exactly same with denny sausages and clonakilty rashers and pudding it is just like at home.

Bars

My Favourite was whacky paddy there was a singer in there every night playing irish songs and you would definatly sit there for the night listening to him he was from russia but had better english than myself none would believe you when you ssaid he was from russia, the bar staff are lovely in there one of the barmen Matt was great throughout out holiday even brought 8 of us out shotting AK47 that was my highlight of the holiday as you would never be allowed shoot AK47s in Ireland, i also liked the corner bar and revelution was brilliant but beware of the bar next to the corner bar as they will rip you off handed in a 50 got 17 back and should of gotten 40 back

Restaurants:

Djannys of course it was fab, i also like brothers, chilli%26#39;s and mamocites, i hated the chinesse over there ate in two of them and they werent chinese the fist one didnt even touch my main course and the chinesse palace i found just to be a plate of grease

Trips:

Went on the catermaran it was lovely a really good day out except for all the jelly fish and wasps

Nessebar waterpark is excellent much better than the sunny beach one and you get a free bus there and back only 30lv for the day Parisalling is 50lv each or 2 for 90lv

In my 2 weeks there i only came across i fruit seller so it was grand a lot of childen begging in the strett after you tho but only sometimes

If getting medical care over there i would suggest to use the Neptun beach Doctor she is lovely i hurt my back over there and she was just great to me but make sure you have travel insurance im with the VHI and they wont cover me for 3000lev as i never stayed overnight in a hospital because i went in and out to the doctors practice everyday for my drips and antibiotics so just be carefull if anything happens you hopefully my travel insurane with budget travel will cover me now tho

But in all i had a brilliant time, i think i would go back there but if i was to go back i would have to stay in the Azure Sky Apartments again :-)

Any questions please dont hesitate to ask

|||

Hi Lorraine, Very glad to hear you had a lovely time.

Good report with useful tips.

Toonman

|||

Irish pub, irish breakfast and irish songs. Nice to enjoy som different cultures when u go on holiday...;-)

|||

hi lorraine

great report can people from outside go to the pub in your apt. and have breakfast there sounds just what we like there is 20 of us would there be room for us all

|||

Hiya, Well if there is 20 of ye i would suggest ye go to Wacky Paddys its just underneath the Neptun beach hotel, when your on the main stip by the beach its across the road from a mini golf just walk down the main strip of the Kuban to the end and take a right and keep going down, outside there is 2 big pints of guinness and bulmers you cant miss it they do the exact same breakfast its fab and this is the bar with all the music, then its wacky o seas that is the bar on to the hotel but its out of the town so i suggest ye go to Wacky Paddys ye wont be dissapointed there is nothing better than a good irish breakfast with denny sausages and clonakilty rashers and puddings . . . enjoy

|||

hi lorraine

thanks a mill for your reply whacky paddys it is so

yeah my lot love the big breakfast was worried it might be like turkey where you cant get a decent sausage it great to know these things before thanks again

|||

Thanks for a great report Lorraine. Pleased to hear you had a good holiday.

Meridian Hotel

Could anyone tell me about the facilities at the Meridain Hotel ie is there a charge for the fitness room sauna and massage.

Also there has a lot been said about the food in the restaurant especially the evening meal as part of HB there have been a lot of bad reports saying the food is not very good some more opinions would be most grateful

|||

There are recent reviews here.

holidaywatchdog.com/16150-Sunny_Beach-Meridi…

To be honest most hotel food is only so,so, however, due to the wide variety available on the doorstep, at very reasonable prices, whether your HB or B%26amp;B, most people eat out.

Toonman

|||

thanks very much I notice you hail from Nuneaton I had a short 6 month stint whilst in the royal Artilery Junior leaders at Gamecock Barracks.

|||

I am a true Geordie but now live in Nuneaton.

Know the barracks well and in fact was there on Sunday for the Gurkha Open Day.

Toonman

|||

Just backw today, stayed in the meridian. Dinners wernt great, just tied them the once though. Breakfast was fine. As for the fitness room, i know i seen it advertised but never found it at the hotel.

After reading the reviews, i was woried about the hotel but it was fine, and beter than other apeared.

I wil leave a proper review in time, sb was good. Local beer was great, and food in restaurant was good.

|||

thanks for your reply look forward to reading your full report on the hotel and resort

We are in the same boat read so many different stories, I guess we are going to either love it or hate it. But one thing I am going to enjoy is the cheap beer.

|||

all i can say is change if you can see the reviews they are all true its hole its dirty if you see the loo,s in the public areas I doubt you would want to use anythign in the SPA. dont touch the food unless you want the trotts all week i am serious go if you want but you will regret booking this hotel. I would prfer to have stayed in a tent than this hole never again. Also DON NOT have ANY valubles in the rooms they WILL get stolen look how many people have been robbed there ita the staff as well.

|||

I have seen a few bad reports on the hotel but most of them are good those people never had any problems with the hotel you must of just been unlucky. We now know someone who has just come back from staying at the Meridian and loved the hotel.

|||

HI

your hotel is just in front of ours we are at the arda, the meridian has certainly changed over the years and the new wing looks nice i dont know about the 3star side of it, but friends of ours said they had a great time there and no probs what so ever about the hotel, yes there will always be good and bad reports, but it depends on what you want out of your hotel, most people only use it for sleeping and showering. we go b and b as its so cheap to eat out but there are plenty of places to drink and eat near the meridian

have a great holiday.

|||

Hi Don,

I stayed at The Meridian last June with my partner and young daughter and we all had a great holiday....... I can%26#39;t help you with the fitness room but I can tell you that the spa was excellent value for money( I had a good 3 hour pamper session) and that is where you will find the sauna......The room we stayed in was on the first floor overlooking the pool....It was clean and a good size for the 3 of us however the bathroom was a tad on the small side!!!!!

Food......We stayed H/B (only because it was cheeper than B%26amp;B!!!!) but we still budgeted for eating out....The breakfasts were great with plenty of choice but I%26#39;m sorry to say the one evening meal we had was awful and I was so glad that we had the funds to eat out.

Pool...... I%26#39;m not sure if you are aware BUT there is a charge for the use of sunbeds and brollies which was not a problem to us as I knew about it in advance....

Lifts...... Before we went I had read a lot of bad reports of the lifts getting stuck.....We never found this a problem but we tended to use the stairs or the lifts at the back of the hotel and not the central glass ones....If like us, you end up with a room on the first floor and decide to use the stairs you will not need the fitness room as the restaurant is on the top floor!!!!

Lastly, I would just like to point out that we normally stay at 3* hotels so maybe our expectations are not the same as those who are used to staying at 4* hotels.

I hope you have a great holiday

Kind regards

Meg x x x

|||

thanks for your reply we have also budgeted to eat out in the evening even though we are HB.

meals and the best breakfast

wheres the best cheap places to eat out as going self catering hopefully soon 2 the sun village or the hotel polyusi thanks

|||

there are loads of place to eat, bit more expensive towards the front, depends what tyou want we were in SB in May/ june this year and eat and drank in The Corner Pub which is near the meridien hotel, the food was fairly cheap and good quality there are a few more places around the corner as well its at the south end of SB, wish i was going back its a great atmosphere.

|||

The best place to eat is the Piccadilly across from the corner pub (meridian hotel) real danish bacon whoop whoop tetley tea bags (8lev) evening meals are really great see koko the owner and tell him Di %26amp; Tel recommended his place... enjoy your holidays Di

iberostar

Hi everyone especially Toonman, well wev`e booked to go to iberostar in july can`t wait went last year and stayed at the diamond which was good but after all the reviews i`ve read it seems more of a 18-30`s now ,Toonman said Iberostar was a good hotel so we booked theredoes anyone know if you can upgrade ti AI when you get there as we are taking grandson whos 6

|||

Hello,

you can do that at reception, but I would recommend you don%26#39;t. There is huge variety of bars and restaurant throughout the resort and even though Iberostar%26#39;s buffet seems to get high scores even from UK guests, trying different places and selecting the menu every day yourself might be better.

Enjoy your stay

|||

Hi, Have to agree with Peter and advise against going AI.

The Iberostar is right in the heart of a number of good restaurants and cheaper bars and although I do love the hotel AI still has certain restrictions especially over times it will apply to.

Stick to HB would be my advice.

Toonman

|||

Thanks for the replies I think I will take your advice last year the food at the diamond was ok but yes i have to agree the food in Djanny`s and Condor etc were nicer , I just thought maybe to upgrade for my grandson for ice creams soft drinks snacks etc but it is so cheap there anyway and yes we will probably be eating out as i know there are other good places to eat , thanks again

|||

Toonman Hi, I know you have stayed at the Iberostar many times and it was your recommendation that we booked to go I have just a few questions, Do they have a kettke in the rooms , have they a hairdryer,we are in a twin room with an extra bed will it be a room with a partition ,will we get a pool view or sea view or are they limited hope you can help ,what is the entertainment like for children age 6,sorry for all the questions , but i like to know everything before I go , any other info on the hotel would be aappreciated

|||

Firstly, no kettle so take your travel one and some cups. It does have a hairdryer in the bathroom.

The hotel is in like a horseshoe with half of the rooms all over looking the pool and the back rooms facing the sea. We have always had pool facing views ( You can pay a bit extra to make certain of a pool view. )

The dining room is all self service, apart from drinks, and you also have fresh meats etc cooked in front of you so you definitely won%26#39;t starve.

I think you%26#39;ll find the 3rd bed is the setee which opens up into a bed.

They have a good animation team in the Iberostar which will keep the kids occupied all day with various activities. At night they have a small show on for the little uns prior to them putting on entertainment for everyone, ( Grease, Moulin Rouge, Dance of the Wind etc., )

Walk out of the hotel ( beach end ) over the little rickety wooden bridge and you have a small childrens play area with swings etc.

On the sea front turn left towards the centre and you have the %26quot;Haunted House %26quot;.

You also have of course the Aquaparks if you fancy a day out.( I can provide links to video footage.

Hope this is of some help and I just hope everything is just as good this year as in previous years.

Toonman

|||

Thanks for all the info Toonman and everyone else, I really am excited , I loved it in Sunny beach last year

|||

We arrive on 13th July - taking toonmans advice and sticking to half board as its our first visit.

Have 2 kids, 8 and 4 ao see you all at the kids clubs .........

|||

I have to disagree, we are in the iberostar now, and took the offer of 7.50 a day to upgrade to a/i, and have saved a fortune in drinks and lunches. The two bars we went to for football were 3lev and 4 lev a

pint for the same beer we get at the iberostar. we still go out for a change but it is well worth consigering the a/i especially if you have kids, but toonman has recommended a very good hotel

|||

Can you remember where the bars were that were charging 3-4 lev a pint.

Djanny%26#39;s currently 1.60. Malina%26#39;s was always cheap and the footie always on.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the Iberostar, we%26#39;ve not been disappointed in the past.

By the way is the Via Suites opposite open for this year or is it still not finished.

Toonman

|||

Cheers for the info Jack, so for a family of 4 to go all inclusive (kids age 8 and 4) what is the cost for 2 weeks.

Do the kids get ice cream or anything during the day ?

Oh and is the beer any good ?

Fantastic Holiday Hotel Korona

Here is my review of the hotel korona which I have posted, hope this helps some people out:

Stayed in the Korona between 3rd to 10th July 2009 and had a fantastic time! Myself and my friend went for a week of sun, nightlife and food all of which were superb. The hotel is just off the beach and about a 10min walk from the centre of sunny beach. The hotel is very clean and modern, with a huge open plan entrance. The rooms were very clean and had a big balcony, we had two single beds, fridge, very cold air con, TV and a wetroom shower and toilet. The pool was very nice and clean and had a swim up bar. We only stayed on a BB basis and the breakfast wasn’t amazing but its so cheap out there we just had a English fry up round the corner. Beer ranges from 50p to £1.50 and a really nice evening meal in Djannys you will be looks at £8 each inc drink!! I would really recommend this hotel as its a great base to explore sunny beach from. Me and my mate were both 25 and sunny beach was fantastic for us met loads of people when out and about, Viking club is the best night club!

|||

Hi we were there 29th June for 2 wk and i say ditto to all you have said, we have been to S/B for the past 5yrs and think the Korona is the best, we stayed at the Majestic last yr which is a lovely hotel, but too far out, we will book the Koroana again hopefully later this yr, and def next year.. Di

|||

Very glad to here you both enjoyed your hols.

Can%26#39;t recall seeing a poor review of the Korana this year which is very pleasing.

Our Report

We are just back from our holiday in Sunny Beach. I travelled with my husband and my two sons who are 8 and 3. I must admit, after reading some reviews on Sunny Beach I was very worried about our hols. In fact we had a brilliant holiday. We stayed at the Summer Dreams apartments which were clean and spacious with excellent cleaners, we had our linen and towels changed every other day. We also found the Bulgarian people very friendly and helpful. They were excellent with my two sons. We ate in The Corner Pub which did great british meals, our boys loved the large yorkie puddings with mash and sausages. They also had a Parrot show on one night and Coco the Clown one night which my 3 year old is still going on about. We also enjoyed an Indian and Chineese. Please avoid McDonalds as they try to rip you off, we went once and didn%26#39;t go back. We also ate at Las Palmas which had excellent food and very reasonable prices. Staff very nice and quick too.

We did see a couple of fruit sellers when we were going to the beach but a polite NO is sufficient and they move on. We never saw any ladys of the night or any other trouble when we were out at night. We enjoyed the Kharma karaoke bar and felt safe walking back to our apartment after 12 at night. One thing is that it does get very busy with young people along at the Kuban Hotel area at night. We avoided going along there too late as we had they boys and it was too busy.

So after all that worrying we had an excellent holiday, met lovely people and can%26#39;t wait to go back.

|||

Hi Gena

Glad to hear you and your family had a wonderful holiday, my family and I go in 12 days, not that I am counting !!!!! ha ha ha ha. it is also nice to hear you didn%26#39;t see anything unpleasant.

Regards

Shell

|||

Thanks for a great report Gena21. Bulgaria is a great country to visit.

im worried....

this might sound really strange but i am a travel agent and i am due to travel to bulgaria, sunny beach on the 15th august with my parents, brother and 17month old daughter. i hear conflicting views on sunny beach and its alot of years since i was last there. Some reviews saying its horrible, full of prostitutes, not enjoyable etc. Others giving mi reviews on prices, restaurants. To be honest its putting me off and after a difficult year we really need a break away. I should be looking forward to it...... can any one please put my mind at rest so i can start looking forward to my holidays and give me some general advice and things.

thank you so much, allison, county durham

|||

Hi Allison

We have just returned from 3 weeks holiday and had a fantastic time. Already looking for flights for September.

This year we stayed in Sv Vlas, a short bus ride from Sunny Beach. 1 lev on the bus. It is much quieter and relaxed than in Sunny Beach. Sunny beach has changed a great deal over the many years we%26#39;ve been visiting but I have never had any trouble with gipsies or prostitutes and have always felt safe there.

Where are you staying? Any thing you need to know, just ask.

|||

Hi Alison, You only have to read the reviews of those returning to see 99% of them had a lovely time.

I keep hearing about prostitutes etc but in the years I%26#39;ve been going have never been bothered ( must be too ugly ) and I hardly think with a little girl with you you%26#39;d be out in the early hours when these girls would be active in the clubs etc.

As with a lot of European countries you will find beggars, fruit sellers. All you do is say no and walk on, don%26#39;t take anything off them or enter into dialogue.

Sunny Beach is not everyone%26#39;s cup of tea as it%26#39;s a purpose built beach resort with virtually no culture but there again thats why I love the place. It has a nice beach,is easy and cheap to go out into the countryside away from the hustle and bustle.

2 good waterparks and a lovely night out at Khan%26#39;s Tent and only a 1 lev bus ride to Nessebar which is a World Heritage site and a nice place to visit for the day.

The price of food and drink is still the cheapest in Europe and I stick to the one%26#39;s where I%26#39;ve had decent meals and service.

Most people say that they%26#39;ve enjoyed meals at Djanny%26#39;s, Far A, Condor, Iris, Malina%26#39;s, Mamacita%26#39;s etc so eating out shouldn%26#39;t be an issue. Mind you hotel food is only so, so which is why we eat out most of the time.

Where are you staying and we can be more helpful?

Toonman

|||

Hi Ally,

I have 2 small girls aged 7 and 5. Sunny Beach is great for small children, there are fair rides along the front at night, restaurants that look like castles and pirate ships and the beaches are great !!! It is that good i bought property there !

I have never encountered problems with prostitutes whilst away with the family, i have seen them around but they stay their distance from families.

I have also been there on a %26quot;lads%26quot; holiday, i have been approached on a number of occasions by these ladies of the night, but once rejected they have disappared.

My advice is go and enjoy your well earned holiday, clear your mind of the things written and make up your own mind. I am sure you will have a great time !!

Try a restaurant called seashells, they do traditional Bulgarian food that is to die for !! and they love kids.

Enjoy !!!

|||

thank you every one for your kind words... it has made me feel a bit better....... sure we will have a good time and will definately look at going to khans tent.

thank you everyone

|||

Hi Ally

I have been going to SB for many years and take my grandson with us, he will be 6 this year, like the above reviews there is a lot going on for all the family, i have never had any bother on holiday, the bulgarian people a lovely and very friendly, they will go out of their way to help you. Just take on board the advice given and you and your family will have a wonderfull holiday. Be sure to visit Khans tents for a fantastic family night out.

janice

|||

Hi Ally,

I may have only been to Sunny Beach twice but if it had not have been through the recomendation of a Travel Agent who had just returned from an %26quot;Educational%26quot; there, back in 1992, I may not have discovered what a great place it is for a holiday......Ok, after returning again last year I could not believe just how much a place could change (it was like going back to a small village you once knew only to find it had turned into a city!!!)..... However you will still find the same warm and friendly locals and if you travel outside of Sunny Beach you will discover a most amazing country full of history.....I hope that when you return, that you too will be able to reccomend Bulgaria and Sunny Beach as a top destination for families.

kind regards

Check your travel insurance

Hi all

I don%26#39;t want to scare you off going on Holiday, but due to the Swine Flu Pandemic check that your insurance covers it. I took out insurance last week and after reading the Policy i discovered that they do not Insure against a pandemic.

I have taken out a different policy now.

just double Check

Best Regards

OZ

|||

hi

can you give a website of the insurance which covers a pandemic?

thanks

|||

Your best bet is doing a search on one of the comparison sites you can read their policies before you take out cover.

hope this helps.

Panorama Fort Beach Apps. (Fort Noks)

Anyone got any good tips for the apps. here. We are going Monday 13th July for a week. All I know is, that the app. has two b/rooms, two b/rooms or shower rooms, and there is a pool or two, plus food available of some sort. ( friend of a friend, and it%26#39;s free, so I didn%26#39;t like to keep mithering them!)

Can you comfortably walk in to S.B. and St. Vlas for instance? Is it even safe to do so, we like an evening stroll, especially along the beach front/ promonade or harbour. St Vlas sounds nice from what I%26#39;ve read on here!

Are there sun loungers etc by the pools?

Aceee

|||

Hi ACEEE

Pamorama is part of the fortnoks complexes,it is lovely. The beach is called Paradise and its just that.You can gain access to all the other fn places.

See the site www.fortnoks.org you can see what each complex looks like.FN runs a mini bus to s.b for about 2 lev you can get off at st vlas.I think st. vlas is too far to walk too and the road is very busy without footpaths.There is also a good local bus service.Try to get to pacos its a pub with a difference,it is across the way from Privilege.you wont be disapponted. The owner of the apartment may have their own sun loungers otherwise you will have to pay for them

Enjoy.

|||

cheers for that germishannon,it sounds like an ace sort of a place we will use the mini bus then, more time to enjoy Djanny%26#39;s then. Also seen a good tip for live music and cheap beer somewhere on here, I%26#39;ve been feverishly scribbling little notes everytime I find something. I need to corelate them now, into a trip itinery. We certainly will enjoy, ta.

Aceee.

|||

I went to Vlas in May and REALLY enjoyed our time there. I wasn%26#39;t much impressed by sunny beach, but vlas is a beautiful little village. lovely place, lovely food and great people.

It is too far to walk into vlas, but a taxi will cost about 15 lev at night.

Pacos bar is a good night. Paco is lovely and really friendly.

Nesssebar is a must. cost us 2 lev on the local bus.

Spider bar is my local when I go to SB and they do have a decent band on.

Only another 5 weeks and I%26#39;ll be back again.

Heard another good group ( rock ) plays at Daks Bar which is close to Billy%26#39;s Bistro.

iberosrar or diamant or

Helo All!

Me and my friend (both 22 year old), have a couple of questions about the above hotels.

First, i want to say that our prefrence is a place with a good night life and

mainly young pepole.

1.What can you tell us?

2.How much does the noise and discomfort in diamant affect the staying?

3.Does young pepole go to the iberostar?

or the relatively hige price keeps them away?

thx

cheers!

|||

The Iberostar is not a youngsters hotel with prices keeping it at the higher end of the market.Very much aimed at the family type or old foggies like me ( I love it there )

The Diamond ( or Diamante ) is for younger element and the 18-30 club go there. Located in the heart of the resort just yards from market and main street with its bars and Revolution Disco.

Horrible Sunny Beach

Why do people go to Sunny Beach. In my point of wiew its the worst place in Bulgaria. So why go there?

The prices for food and driks are at least two times as high as in rest of Bulgaria. And de food is over all not good at all in Sunny Beach.

The taxidrivers are mafiosos. The told me 20 leva for 200 meters. In Sofia or Plovdiv the price is 2 leva. Rip off!

How can you stand the noise in the main street in the evenings. It is just horrible. For pepole from 16 to 22, ok maybe, if they are drunk. But I dont understand at all that people over 25+ can enjoy holiday here.

Threre are cheaters, gypsies og hookers all over the place. No charm. No real Bulgaria.

I also find that there are a lot of %26quot;white trash%26quot; among the tourists there.

I enjoy Bulgaria a lot: Varna, Golden Sands is ok, Veliko Tarnovo, Balchik, Plovdiv and Sofia - Sofia much better now than a few years ago.

But I will never go back to Sunny Beach.

|||

Well - what to say? Only can clap hands, because you described the athmosphere of the %26quot;resort%26quot; pretty well. There%26#39;s not even a drop of charm.

You are doing the right thing - go deep into the country, where the life is different and there are trees, not concrete :)

|||

I would say most people travelling to Sunny Beach are not going there to see the %26quot;real Bulgaria%26quot;, just a cheap holiday.

Its also pretty obvious why people go there rather than other places in Bulgaria.

1. Its the most popular resort in the country and i would guess most people like to mix with other holidaymakers when abroad.

2. Its the largest resort in the country meaning there are more things to do and see than anywhere else, day and night.

3. There are restaurants/bars in the %26quot;noisy main street%26quot; and also away from it so it caters for everyone.

4. More hotels in SB than any other resort so more availability.

5. Many day excursions available.

6. Theres a lovely great beach and usually good weather.

Yes there are some negative things about it but most things can be avoided and price inflation is going to happen in any thriving resort. If people all started going elsewhere it would happen there aswell. Its still a lot cheaper than any other place in Europe.

I will ignore the white trash comment as i don%26#39;t care for your explanation of it.

I think I%26#39;ve covered everything!

It just comes down to what sort of holiday you enjoy.

|||

well said %26quot;happy up here%26quot; although i respect his opinion i take offence to the racist comment of %26quot;white trash%26quot; we travel there on the 4th august for the exact reasons you wrote yes i could visit other parts of bulgaria if that is the type of holiday i wanted but i dont i going on a family holiday with an age range of 6year old upto 67 and i think sunny beach will cater for all of us

|||

was in sunny each for 2weeks i=end of june atart of july and ya u will see gypies trying to get u to buy fruit but if u went to speak to ur rep at the welcome metting u will be aware of this and u will also e aware of the diff prices of taxi fares to diff places ,,what do u mean by white trash????????????????????very racist comment isent it, just because u dnt like sunny beach dnt ruin it for eveyone else ..u obviously did not do any recearch on sunny beach before u went like and tourist resort u will have gypsies ..

|||

Have to echo what Happy said. The majority of people go to SB for the atmosphere,beach,value.

If I want culture I%26#39;ll go to Rome, Athens etc( and be ripped off )

All I want after a years hard graft is sun, relaxing time on the beach and somewhere with atmosphere in the evenings and SB suits me to the ground.

I have been going to SB now for a number of years and have never been bothered by prostitutes,pickpockets or cheating taxi drivers. Just because they say a price doesn%26#39;t mean you agree to pay it. Advice on this forum has always been to never get in a taxi without an agreement of the price first.

Just because I%26#39;m in my fifties doesn%26#39;t mean I can%26#39;t enjoy myself too.

I find your comments about %26quot;White Trash%26quot; offensive as the majority of people visiting SB are decent, hard working people from various countries who come for a 2 week break from their daily grind.

Toonman

|||

%26quot;White trash%26quot; is not a rasistic term, from Wiki:

%26quot; It is most frequently used as a slur to describe financially, economically or culturally disadvantaged Caucasians%26quot;.

An I did not say that all of the tourist are %26quot;white trash%26quot;, but there are more of them other places. It is just the fact.

But my main point is that there are so much better, cheaper and friendlier places in Bulgaria than Sunny Beach.

To all you staying there: Enjoy you holiday! Remember to drink a lot in the heat! :-)

|||

%26quot;cheating taxi drivers. Just because they say a price doesn%26#39;t mean you agree to pay it. Advice on this forum has always been to never get in a taxi without an agreement of the price first.%26quot;

Asked for a taxi to my hotel. He said %26quot;20 leva%26quot;. I said %26quot;No way, 5 leva%26quot;. He replied: %26quot;This is Sunny Beach, my friend!%26quot; What kind of attitude is this?!! Not a nice welcome. I agreed at 10 leva, but that is far to much.

Sorry if i have offended anyone with %26quot;withe trash%26quot; - I just felt that the place was full of people - drunken white people that can not behave. I call them %26quot;white trash%26quot;, because they are bothering other people.

Of course - most of the tourist is hard working people deserving every day of their holiday.

|||

i also agree with happy up there well put, im going to sunny beach on sunday for 2 weeks with my family we do like it there ok yes every place has its ups and downs but if every one listens to you airbus and does not go to see it for them selves then people are stupid , you could say the same with benidorm spain people go there to drink get drunk fall down but also to have a good time just go to bulgaria forget sunny beach we dont want you there haha

|||

also if you took your head out of the dictionary to slag people and places off you might enjoy a holiday

|||

I also take offence to your remark regarding %26#39;white trash%26#39;, AirbusTronn.

I agree Sunny Beach is not the real Bulgaria, which big holiday resort in any country is a true representation of that country and its culture????

I have travelled throughout Bulgaria and love and respect the Bulgarians. That is why I have so many true Bulgarian friends.

Not all Bulgarians in Sunny Beach are there to rip off tourists! Some do try, that is why we ask visitors to take heed of all the advise on this forum. Surely, 200meters is not a long way to walk if you felt the taxi fare was a rip off!

You also state that you like Sofia....this year we flew into the capital and travelled by hired car to the coast. When we arrived, a taxi driver refused to carry 3 passengers and our luggage, so we had to pay for 2 taxis. On returning to Sofia for our flight home, having enjoyed 3 weeks in Sunny Beach, we needed to drop off the car in Terminal 2 and our flight was from Terminal 1. There is a distance of 2kms between the terminals. A taxi driver wanted 10lev, which I refused, and then found there was a free shuttle bus between terminals.

I suggest you take care when you next visit Sofia or any other foreign land. You can be ripped off anywhere if you%26#39;re not careful.

Eating and drinking in sunny beach

Just booked to go to Sunny beach for a week 23rd August, 2 adults and a 10 year old travelling staying

B%26amp;B in a hotel. Not been before can anyone advise rough cost of eating and drinking? Any tips please?

|||

Not sure where you are staying but most of the good value restaurants are in/around the market area close to the hotel kuban. Far A, Condor, Iris, Djanny%26#39;s, Billy%26#39;s Bistro, Malina%26#39;s.

If you use sea front bars a pint of Zagorka or Kaminitsa will set you back between 3 %26amp; 4 lev. Slightly further back off the front you can pay only 1 lev ( about 45p ). Local spirits with mixer about 3 lev. Cocktails ( BOGOF ) about 5 lev +

Slice of pizza 2 lev and you can get meals from about 8 lev upwards.

If you buy imported beers/spirits ( Stella,Fosters etc expect to pay a similar price as at home. ( Zagorka/Kaminitsa are nice lagers.

Prices in suermarkets are cheaper again.

Hotel Hawaii

Just in case you%26#39;ve booked this hotel and are frightened by the reviews:

We stayed at the hotel Hawaii in August last year. It was THE cheapest holiday I have ever had in the last 18 years. And we enjoyed it!

What you have to remember is that Bulgaria is an East European country and very very poor. The locals and staff we found to be extremely friendly and helpful and if any problem was brought to their attention they endeavoured to sort it. Yes the rooms are quite small and basic but personally I only go there to sleep anyway. The bathroom was refurbished and very clean.

We arrived at the hotel at approx 2am from the airport and asked the reception if refreshments were available. They opened the hotel bar just for us.

The pool was clean and not particularly crowded, plenty of loungers available. The food and service from the pool was bar was 100%.

In all we thoroughly enjoyed this holiday which cost us very little and I think we spent a total of 200quid in the 10 days we were there (bed and breakfast). That was for 2 adults and a 9 year old boy who can eat as much as me. We ate out everyday for both lunch and dinner, sometimes 3 courses, drank what we wanted and brought back lots of stuff (particularly clothes and shoes). All for 200 quid, not bad eh?

What I would say is if you want 5star treatment then Bulgaria is not for you. Just remember some people are never happy wherever they go and always like to moan!

Personally I would definately go again and yes I would stay at the Hotel Hawaii.

|||

We have booked to go to this hotel in August (2 adults %26amp; 2 Children 14 %26amp; 10)and I am encouraged by your review after reading some of the others.

Do you know if the family rooms are a decent size we are not expecting there to be masses of space but enough for four without tripping over each other?

Can you reccomend any reasonably priced restaurants?

Do you know which hotels are near by as i am having trouble finding out whereabouts in the resort it is?

Sorry there%26#39;s so many questions but I can%26#39;t find much info about it.

Any information would be great

Thanks

|||

Bev, I think you%26#39;ll find this hotel is in the new part of Nessebar not SB.( It used to be called the Dynamic )

Hi anyone stayed at Panorama Fort Beach apartments?

Iam going there at the end of July would like a bit of personal description rather than a brochure blurb....thx

|||

Hi we own an apartment at Marina View which is next to Panorama.The complex is excellent and has pools and a resterant.The bus stop is just outside the complex which is very cheap and stops at St Vlas,Sunny Beach and Nessebar.We are going on Monday.If you want any more info either post on the forums or send me a personal messege.

Hi

My mum has an apartment there and it%26#39;s really nice. There is a restaurant which is open from first thing in the morning until last thing at night. The food is pretty nice too, nothing fancy though. There is also a shop on site which is open almost all the time. You can get British newspapers there if you%26#39;re quick (they sell out straight away). Obviously it%26#39;s right next to the beach but there are some rather steep steps to access it - be careful! The taxi drivers that run from the apartments are all really friendly but there are also buses that run past the main road every so often (not sure of the timetable).

St Vlas is just up the road and it%26#39;s fab. Far less touristy than Sunny Beach and the restaurants are loads cheaper. It%26#39;s lovely to sit in the square in the evening and watch people go by. I recommend Garana restaurant for cheap food and the Balkan for something special in lovely surroundings.

I%26#39;m going there at the beginning of July, I%26#39;ve not been for a year so I will post if there is any news!

I hope this helps - I really love the place so I hope you enjoy it too! xx

|||

thx for the info I hope you have a great time there and we are off in july as well loking forward too.

|||

Hi Suzitheatre, please update when you return, stayed at sunny beach in june for the first time and was thinking of staying at one of these apartments, fancied somewhere a little quieter than sunny beach.

Thanks

Hi

We got back last Friday. Had a lovely time. Elenite is the resort just up the road from St Vlas and much quieter than Sunny Beach. I personally really like it up there. The apartments are all really close to the beach (some are right on the beach) and there are lots of tree covered mountain/hills behind so it all looks very nice! This year I tried the bus service for the first time. It was actually alright too! It makes getting into Sunny Beach or Old Nessebar really easy and it%26#39;s super cheap (about 2 or 3lvs to get into Sunny Beach, and it%26#39;s direct, no changing or anything). The Marina area in St Vlas is lovely - there are some amazing boats, cars and restaurants down there! The beach next to the Marina looks great and there are lots of aparments down in that area too, they all look lovely.

On our way back we got chatting to an older couple who had rented an apartment in St Vlas from a friend. They said they really liked the place, the food and the people but as the gentleman was in a wheelchair they found it very difficult to get about easily - it%26#39;s all a little hilly and Bulgarian pavements are highly questionable (don%26#39;t think about wearning high heeled shoes!). If you do have mobility issues you might want to stick with Sunny Beach as it%26#39;s much flater.

If you do go to St Vlas then you MUST try the Balkan restaurant. It was about £25 for 2 starters, main courses, beer, wine and mineral water and the food was AMAZING - like a fine dining restaurant over here almost. The setting is also beautiful, lovely gardens. There are far cheaper places to eat though, the Garana restaurant at the square is great!

On an evening in St Vlas you can sit in the square and watch the world go by, which is actually quite interesting when you consider how many nationalities are milling about. Or, you can visit Gorgeous%26#39; George%26#39;s British Bar. Although this might sound horrendous it%26#39;s actually a nice place and probably the least British-orientated British bar you will ever visit! They%26#39;ve just got a Union Jack stuck in the corner but otherwise it%26#39;s a nice place to sit and look down on the main street in St Vlas - the cocktail list is extensive and fun too!

I hope this info is helpful, if you do decide to go then enjoy your stay!

Thank you

xx

Kassandra Apartments

My husband our 2 sons and myself are going to Sunny Beach on 17/08/09 and will be staying at the Kassandra Apartments. Wondering if anybody knows exactly where they are located. We have been to Sunny Beach on numerous occasions and love it there. (Only came back in June from our last holiday there!!). So if anyone knows their location it would be great and if anyone has stayed there I would love to hear their opinions on these apartments pls. Thanks

|||

Hi Mary, I have never heard of these apartments so I can only assume they are new build for this year.

Will try and dig a bit deeper for you.

Hi Toonman, Thank you very much for trying to find out for me. It is appreciated. Even though it is booked now it would be still nice to know where about they are located. All we wanted basically is a place to sleep as hopefully we wont be spending much time indoors!
