Just Back from St Vlas

Got back early yesterday morning after 2 glorious weeks in Vlas.

Spent most days either on beach (bought our own umbrella n used towels as loungers work out pricey for a two week holiday)or lazing by pool.

Stayed in a frontline apartment near Sineva Beach and Berlin Hotel - fab location.

Eating out was great and so cheap, we used Central on the Square for a few meals as was good value and great location. Went to Miami one night, the food was lovely and the night is bonkers, a must for a laugh! The Berlin does great pizza and the view over the beach is one of the best.

Another cheap meal is to buy a chicken kebab from the stall just off the square going down the main street. (with everything in it!) and sit and people watch on the square, then get mini do -nuts with chocolate sauce for dessert!

On a few nights there were entertainments on in the square, bulgarian singers and dancers etc.

The marina is lovely for a walk round,

if only to see the cars and boats. Didnt eat out there as were advised the food was nothing special but the prices were hiked up.

Went to Old Nessabur twice (2lev on the bus) this was lovely, its a nice walk all round the outside of the town, the shopping was good and the choice of restaurants and bars great. We watched the fish being dropped of straight from the boats-you can%26#39;t get fresher than that.

Only went to Sunny Beach once and sorry to say we didnt like it, but we didnt think we would, its too busy for us and very commercialised. Was amazed by the hotels that look like they belong in Las Vegas.

I can see the attraction for youngsters and would not knock it at all, SB is what it is, and I%26#39;m sure it provides a perfect holiday for some, just not us. (We are only in our early forties by the way-not nineties!!)

Found the Bulgarians to be quite a reserved nation, met a couple of people who spoke good English and they said this is their nature, however, once you engage in conversation they are friendly and helpful.

Never felt threatened at all, never witnessed any bad behaviour in Vlas but did hear of an English man being mugged on the beach in SB, in the early hours when he had been clubbing- he apparently told his wife (who was not with him)his drink was spiked!Sounds like he was asking for trouble, talking to lads who went to SB every night, they said that yes, you had to keep your wits about you, but no more than in any big town in the world.

We would definately go to Vlas again and would recommend it fully, have decided we would like to see different parts of Bulgaria now and have been given ideas by a chap who lives over there so may be looking for tips soon.

Hi Shropshire Tan, should now probably read %26#39;Very Tanned%26#39; after the fantastic weather you must have had!

Great report and good to hear you enjoyed your stay in Sv Vlas, somehow I knew you would.

We havent been to the Miami for a couple of years and had heard its now a lot quieter than it used to be. Pleased you had a good night there!

The Bulgarians are a very friendly nation when you get to know them. We used to have some difficulty getting through to many of them, as they do sometimes find it difficult to understand our sence of humour.

There have been so many warnings on this forum re going onto the beach at night. These muggings usually take place when the gentleman are enticed onto the beach by the %26#39;ladies of the night%26#39;! No wonder her told his wife that his drink was spiked!!!!

Pleased to hear you will return to Bulgaria and if I can help with any info re other areas of the country, please ask.
