Travellers cheques?

Going to Sunny Beach for first time on 7 September with wife and three year old son staying in the Majestic. We have never been and really looking forward to going somewhere different.

I know there have been loads of posts on best ways to obtian money whilst over there but please advise if travellers cheques are firstly a safe way to go and secondly if they are decent value.

Going for two weeks and was going to take around £400 in Levs to start us off and the rest in travellers cheques.

Best just to take cash I think. That%26#39;s what we are doing. We are only going to take a small amount of levs, just to start us off, and then change money there, as and when we need. Not too sure about Scottish notes though, maybe someone else can help with that. To be honest, we have given up on taking travellers cheques, too much of a hassle. As long as you use the safe you should be fine.

Thx Tizzy.

We are taking approx £1500 so I would be worried at carrying that amount of cash until it gets to the safe in our room. I would even be a little cautious with that kind of money in the safe.

Can someone tell me for example approx how much Lev you would get changing £100 Sterling (English notes) as opposed to a £100 travellers cheque?

Also, sorry for being a pain, if we do take either cash or cheques where is safest place to exchange?

Many thanks.

hi if you get a nationwide flex card you can withdraw money out without getting charged and you get the best possible rate saves taking cash

Only change your money in one of the banks for the best rates. ( If you take cash, Sterling notes, unmarked , no tears ).

DO NOT change money in any exchange booths unless it is a CROWN EXCHANGE. A very good option is STRINGS exchange right opposite the Hotel Diamond.

Your hotel will also exchange but it will be a lower rate.

You could loose up to 10% in traveller cheques.

I agree with the above posts. Changing travellers cheques you will get a lower rate plus charged commission. You will also need to carry your passport to change cheques.

I would take no more than £50 worth in lev to start you off and change the rest in Sunny Beach. Scottish notes are accepted in some exchanges but again a lower rate than sterling. Best rate June/July was STRING in the Avenue Centre, opposite Diamond Hotel.

For £100 sterling, you should get at least 220levs, hopefully a bit more, depends on the rate, which can change daily.
