hiking from Borovets to Mount Musala

Hi -- I%26#39;m planning to hike Mt. Musala next week. I imagine I%26#39;ll start early in the morning in Borovets, and take the gondola up to Yastrebets, then hike the rest of the way on foot. Then I%26#39;ll return the same way, taking the gondola back down. Does anyone have a sense of how doable this sounds as a one-day trip from Borovets?

Also -- I%26#39;ll be returning to Sofia after that. How late is it possible to get a bus or taxi from Borovets back to Sofia?

Thanks so much to anyone who can offer a little info here!

Alan

The two way trip from Yastrebets to Musala and back is about 5-7 hours, including about 30 minutes stay at the top enjoying the view. It depends a lot how much trained you are. One summer day is enough without being in haste.

The lift summer timetable:

Monday and Tuesday - not working

Wednesday and Thursday - 8:45 - 16:50

Last up course (Borovets-Yastrebets) - 16:00

Last down course (Yastrebets-Botrovets) - 16:20

Friday to Sunday - 8:45 - 18:30

Last up course (Borovets-Yastrebets) - 18:00

Last down course (Yastrebets-Botrovets) - 18:00

Price for 2-way ticket - 10 BGN for adults and 6 BGN for children (not more than 12 years old)

Hi,

just a little correction - Musala is the peak, the mountain is called Rila. I just came back from Musala. A day is quite enough taking into account that the gondola trip is about 40 min, then you walk literally horizontaly for about an hour and a half almost a %26#39;walk in the park%26#39; - people with babies walk this path and then is the climb - officially 1 hour. I suggest you take proper shoes - hard soles as the terrain is rocky. I know not of direct bus Borovets - Sofia( we go there by car), but there are mini-buses from Borovets to Samokov(64km 1,1h) every 30 min and from Samokov to Sofia(63km 1.1h - also every 30 min) last bus leaves at 19h, which means you have to catch 17:30 mini-bus from Borovets to make it to the bus from Samokov to Sofia. However it%26#39;s always best to check as soon as you arrive there. Have fun.
